Whole Wheat Bread

Whole Wheat Bread

A hearty, homemade whole wheat bread with a soft texture and wholesome flavor. Perfect for sandwiches, toast, or serving alongside soups and stews.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp honey or molasses
  • 1 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1 egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tbsp water
  • ⅓ cup Natura Fiber
  • 2⅔ cups whole wheat bread flour
  • 2 tsp bread machine yeast

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the warm water, salt, olive oil, honey (or molasses), brown sugar, egg, and the additional 2 tablespoons of water.
  2. In a separate bowl, whisk together the Natura Fiber and ⅔ cup of the whole wheat bread flour.
  3. Add the Natura Fiber mixture, the remaining 2 cups of whole wheat bread flour, and the bread machine yeast to the wet ingredients.
  4. Stir until a dough forms, then knead for 8–10 minutes, adding only a small amount of additional flour if needed to prevent sticking.
  5. Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and transfer it to one large loaf pan or two small loaf pans. Cover and let rise again for about 1 hour, or until nearly doubled.
  7. Preheat the oven to 350°F.
  8. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until the loaf is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom. If using two small loaf pans, begin checking for doneness around the 30-minute mark.
  9. Remove from the pan and cool completely on a wire rack before slicing.
